Each team "sees" exactly one Product Owner

Description

The Product Owner provides direction to the Team in the form of a Product Goal and a prioritised Product Backlog. In order to guarantee consistency a Team has to receive the direction from a single person.

Rationale

  • This is clearly defined in the Scrum Guide
  • The opposite is not true: a Product Owner could work many different Teams. The 1:1 relationship between Teams and Product Owners is a common misunderstanding that has dire consequences in a scaling environment. (Practice: One Product Owner may have multiple Teams)
  • When working in a Composite Value Stream, the Product Owner could be part of a wider Product Ownership Group
